'3/2021 Pink Alex' is another fast and furious alla prima work.  I love working in this manner as the canvas seems to imbue some of my energy.  

 

One of the first decisions that an artist makes is the choice of colour palette. I wanted to stretch myself, so  decided to paint in a colour that I wouldn't ordinarily paint in - hot pink.  

 

I had a photograph that I had taken of my son, Alex, playing the Ipad and I wanted to reflect some of the vibrancy that he uses when playing computer games in the colours that I used.  So I settled upon hot pink and green, in a graffitied street art style.

 

I find that my paintings not only transform in the painting process, but also begin reflecting my current preoccupations. At the time of painting this work, I was watching historical American movies set in the 19th Century. 
 

To me  'Pink Alex' depicts not Alex but a fictional historical figure in a graffitied and abstract manner. However, Alex (who is a 9 year old entrepreneur) has told me that if this painting sells, he wants a cut of it as the artist model ...  So, if you buy this work, you will make a 9 year old very happy!
